Department of Consumer Affairs urges online platforms to refrain from adopting ‘dark patterns’ harming consumer interest. Dark patterns include certain defined terms such as False Urgency, Basket Sneaking, Subscription Traps, Confirm Shaming, Forced Action, Nagging, Interface Interference, Bait & Switch, Hidden Costs and Disguised Ads. Consumer can report instances of ‘dark patterns’ to National Consumer Helpline.
